This position provides proactive leadership for the Individual tax function.
The Director, Individual Tax is responsible for developing, implementing, managing the individual tax practice function, developing individual tax strategies while supporting strategic operating goals as well as overseeing the individual tax services for key internal clients, executive leadership, partners, shareholders, and owner-doctors.
The function of the Director, Individual Tax Services is to orchestrate and spearhead meetings with key stakeholders, executives, and owner doctors in assisting each with their individual tax filing and planning needs.
They will lead a team that will provide a professional experience and advice to key leaders regarding individual taxation and related financial planning as well as tax reporting compliance requirements.
The successful candidate will be responsible for all aspects of leading the Individual Tax function, including but not limited to: Responsibilities Lead the strategy, design, implementation and maintenance of programs, policies, and procedures around individual tax services for key internal clients, executive leadership, partners, shareholders, and owner-doctors.
Thought leader, solutions partner and trusted advisor who builds strong relationships with key internal clients, executive leadership, partners, shareholders, and owner-doctors; drives to aid individuals to achieve a best-in-class tax planning experience.
Provide leadership and oversight for all individual tax team procedures, which may include partnering with internal departments on data submission and setting a standard of how the team interacts with internal clients.
Maintain proficiency with respect to current tax laws, tax law changes and proposals, applicable tax software, various tax research services, and planning opportunities.
Planning may involve such areas as retirement planning, sales and tax-deferred exchanges of real estate, estate & gift planning, business acquisitions and dispositions, and tax minimization strategies.
Ensures internal tax team is also proficient on these matters.
Be familiar with unique provisions of flow through entities and collaborate with operational leaders in advising on tax implication of structuring deals.
Manage tax processes and technology to align with tax department needs and objectives.
Find ways to improve existing processes that create efficiencies or enhance the client’s experience.
Build relationships with clients and other department leaders to provide excellent planning, consulting, and expertise services.
Meet with individual leaders and partners in group settings and one-on-one to discuss tax planning and tax return reporting matters.
Develops team to meet same expectations.
Partner with accounting/finance, legal and business personnel to identify and implement individual tax planning opportunities.
Play an active role in the development of individual tax planning strategies, including those related to expanding business lines and operational footprint.
Monitor reporting and planning to ensure compliance with applicable tax statutes.
Review and oversee the timely delivery of individual tax returns, extensions, quarterly tax estimates, and tax projection calculations.
Manage department performance and productivity to maintain PDS’ standards for performance and that policies and procedures are documented, administered, and interpreted in a fair and consistent manner.
Coach, mentor and motivate a team to successful outcomes.
Mentor and develop tax staff while also using the formal mentoring and career planning programs offered by the company.
Oversee work of tax team as they prepare tax returns and other tax compliance obligations.
Foster an environment of inclusive behavior through effective communication and strong leadership skills.
Maintain an appropriate professional appearance and demeanor in accordance with company policies, address others professionally and respectfully.
Model stewardship of the PDS Brand, making decisions consistent with the PDS Brand framework.
Identify, evaluate, and consult with external tax advisors, as needed, to best position the individual with respect to tax planning strategies.
Adhere to and participate in all standard structured meetings.

Qualifications 10+ years of progressively complex experience in individual tax planning and compliance work is required.
Bachelor’s Degree in Tax or Accounting JD, CPA or EA In depth knowledge of individual tax law including current tax developments; understanding of key individual and partnership tax processes and data drivers.
Experience managing tax team of more than ten direct and indirect reports.
Experience with taxation of partnerships/LLCs and S-Corps Preferred Big Four or similar Accounting Experience Preferred.
Master’s Degree in Tax Experience in Healthcare or Retail industry a plus.
