We seek an exceptional individual to join our team as the Coordinator, Southwest Asian and North African Resource Center (Student Services Professional I-Range B).
The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.
Under the general supervision of the Associate Director of Diversity Initiatives and Resources Centers (DIRC), the Southwest Asian and North African (SWANA) Coordinator will have a working knowledge of SWANA student’s educational and social support needs, transitional issues, and university and community support services.
Supports in planning programs, providing educational presentations to students, campus partners, and community providers.
Must be sensitive to potential problems so that assistance and resources can be secured to help mitigate additional challenges.
Research current issues as relates to Southwest Asian and North African students and provides solution-oriented problem solving to inform programs and services.
The Southwest Asian and North African (SWANA) Coordinator will be involved in fostering an inclusive and culturally responsive environment, collaborating with campus organizations, and addressing the unique needs of SWANA students and support the building out of the upcoming SWANA Resource Center at Cal State Fullerton.
Assists with planning developing and implementing special events targeting a large population (several hundred students) that will enhance retention and graduation rates.
Will support the development and execution of strategic recruitment and retention goals in support of the overall Division of Student Affairs and the Graduation Initiative 2025.
Participates in applicable meetings, committees, and training.
Assists with interviewing, hiring, mentoring, and training student assistants.
Other duties as assigned.
Essential Qualifications Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent from an accredited four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public administration, business administration or a job-related field plus one year of experience in professional Student Services work at the entry trainee level.
Specialized and relevant experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
Equivalent amounts of job-related, graduate level education may be substituted for the required experience.
Working knowledge of the methods and problems of organization and program management.
Working knowledge of research techniques, interview techniques, and the principles of individual and group behavior.
Ability to interpret and apply program rules and regulations, gather, and analyze data, reason logically, draw valid conclusions, and make appropriate recommendations.
Ability to present clear and concise information orally and in written reports.
Ability to acquire knowledge of campus procedures and activities and the overall organization.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment.
CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information.
Failure to complete the background check satisfactorily may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.
Preferred Qualifications A Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university or the equivalent in one of the behavioral sciences, higher education, public administration, business administration, or a job-related field and two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or a related field.
Previous experience working in Student Affairs, Admissions, Advising, Outreach, Tours, or Orientation.
Knowledge of creating and implementing programs, event planning, presenting to large audiences, in person and virtually.
Familiar with Qualtrics, software used to create marketing materials, videos, etc.
