Description
The City of San Clemente is seeking a qualified individual to serve as Recreation Specialist in Aquatics.
This position plans and coordinates the City's aquatics programs, provides staff support during aquatics special events and other programs, and performs a variety of tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.
The following certifications are required.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED: Receives direction from the Aquatics Coordinator or Aquatics Supervisor.
May exercise functional and technical supervision over part time staff and volunteers.
Essential Functions Essential responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: Assume responsibility for various assigned city programs; develop programs and activities; direct and oversee instructors.
Ability to manage and provide leadership for various age groups and large groups of people.
Ability to effectively communicate the goals and objectives, and uphold the regulations and policies of the Recreation Division.
Provides oversight of city aquatics facilities, school facilities; coordinates with recreation division staff regarding maintenance and repairs; assists with set up of supplies and equipment, and helps ensure facility is clean and orderly.
Assist in developing goals and objectives for aquatics programs; help assess community needs; develop and implement programs aligned with community needs.
Collect monies for the use of city facilities and programs as assigned, assists with the registration of programs, works with the front desk to provide class rosters, and other materials necessary to conduct the program.
Plan and coordinate marketing efforts; prepare brochures, flyers, bulletin boards, creates displays, and other publicity releases, updates banners.
Participate in recruiting, interviewing, and selecting Pool Lifeguards and other aquatics staff, instructors and volunteers; supervise and oversee staff members and volunteers; coordinate or provide training; conduct safety training sessions.
Assist with the preparation of budgetary requests for recreation programs and events.
Coordinate and assist with citywide special events, including working the day of the event which may be offered on holidays.
Coordinate set-up and equipment for a variety of recreational classes, rentals, and programs at City buildings and offsite locations including parks, schools, public streets, and beaches.
Schedule part time staff assigned to aquatics programs and events.
Review and monitor assigned hours.
Manage supplies and inventory of equipment for assigned programs and events.
Assist with information for administrative reports on activities and operations.
Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
Typical Qualifications EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.
A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: Experience: Two years of experience working with aquatic recreation programs, including some group activity leadership.
Training: Two years of college or university level education (coursework in Recreation, Education or a related field preferred).
