*Position Summary*
The teaching assistant’s job is to assist in teaching a diverse population of children in an atmosphere of kindness that encourages active inquiry, fosters individual growth and promotes respect for self, others and the world in which they live.
In that all students learn the basic and essential skills at each grade level.
The ES Teaching Assistants report to the Assistant Principal and are supported by various administrators.
*Responsibilities:*
· Monitor and assist students during teacher-directed, whole class instruction.
· Monitor and support students during independent work or cooperative learning activities under teacher direction.
· Provide follow-up instruction after teacher-directed instruction.
· Provide small group instruction (pre-teaching or alternative instruction) to students under teacher direction.
· Support students’ instructional program through the preparation of materials and the fulfillment of other clerical tasks.
· Supervise students in a variety of settings such as the classroom, cafeteria, bus loading area, playground, hallway or auditorium, etc.

· Substitutes for teachers as appropriate
· Purchase, requisition, and stock teaching materials and supplies.
· Attends staff and committee meetings as required.
· Assist teacher by providing translation for families; including Parent-Teacher Conferences, Daily Communication, E-mails, Written Translations, and Parent Meetings.
· Respects the confidentiality of records and information regarding students, parents, and teachers.
*Qualifications*:
· Native Mandarin speaker, with minimum one years’ teaching experience
· BA degree
· Excellent written and oral communication skills
· Excellent organizational and classroom management skills
· Strong computer skills, including internet, MS office, use of technology in classroom
· Submit to various background checks including those completed through the DOH
· Be CPR, First Aid, and Infectious Diseases (and others as apply) certified or obtain certification upon hire
· Complete a physical and provide a physician’s documentation
· Possess a strong work ethic, be punctual, and have minimal absences
· Have an awareness of the unique needs of young children and have appropriate expectations of theirabilities
