NOCE offers two levels of Citizenship Preparation courses: Beginning and Intermediate/Advanced.
In-person sections may be scheduled at our main sites (Anaheim, Cypress Center, Wilshire Center) as well as off-site/community-based locations, morning, afternoon, or evening.
Limited online sections are available to instructors meeting the NOCE requirements for Distance Education eligibility, as noted below.

The award of all degrees must be verifiable on a legible transcript.
If degree award date is not posted on transcript your application will be deemed incomplete and removed from consideration.
Grade cards will not be accepted in lieu of transcripts.
All degrees and course work used to satisfy the required minimum qualifications must be submitted and from accredited postsecondary institutions.

Minimum Qualifications:
Except provided elsewhere in this article, the minimum qualifications for service as a faculty member teaching a noncredit course shall be the same as the minimum qualifications for credit instruction in the appropriate discipline, or as follows:
Bachelors degree in any discipline, and six semester units in American history and institutions.
OR
Possess a valid California teaching credential authorizing service in a community college in the appropriate subject matter area;
OR
The equivalent.
Equivalent qualifications may include related education, training, employment and professional experience that would be equal to the required degree(s) and experience in this field as determined by the District Equivalency Committee.

Desirable Qualifications:
Experience teaching Citizenship and/or ESL courses for adult education or community college.
Familiarity with Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment System (CASAS) testing, including English Literacy and Civics (EL Civics).
CASAS Citizenship Interview Test (CIT) Examiner Certification.
Possession of strong computer skills and ability to learn and effectively use technology and software.
Demonstrated experience with learning management systems (LMS) such as Canvas.
Demonstrated ability to integrate 21st century learning skills and digital literacy effectively into instruction.
Understanding of, and the ability to implement, effective online instructional strategies.
Working knowledge of and experience with student learning outcomes and assessment.
Experience designing and/or teaching curricula responsive to the needs of historically underrepresented and/or marginalized students.
Experience in teaching students from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds and widely varying levels of proficiency.
NOTE: To qualify for Distance Education assignments with NOCE, instructors are expected to comply with specific training requirements as determined by Campus standards.
Currently, NOCE instructors must possess one of the following to be eligible for an online teaching assignment:
