POSITION SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Director of Vocal Music, the Vocal Jazz Instructor is responsible for teaching and leading the Vocal Jazz Ensemble both on and off campus at previously approved events.
Reports to: Director of Vocal Music
Supervises: No supervisory duties
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Develop an audition rubric specific to vocal jazz and oversee annual auditions for the ensemble
Implement a variety of teaching techniques to ensure student achievement and engagement
Develop or select an appropriate vocal curriculum to further develop the Vocal Jazz Ensemble
Responsible for proposing all off-campus trips, festivals, and competitions using the appropriate documentation
Responsible for all transportation, supervision, and management of students in any off-campus events previously approved
Attend scheduled rehearsal and performance events inside and outside the academic day, including nights and weekends
Maintain stated student behavioral expectations as outlined in the Student Handbook
Establish a grade check system to maintain academic integrity as pertains to the extracurricular activities policies outlined in the Student Handbook
If there are any problems, confer with the Director of Vocal Music for next steps
Adhere to all Orange Lutheran Standards of Conduct and Behavior as outlined in the Employee Handbook
Maintain appropriate interaction with students at all times
This includes adhering to the policies regarding communication in the Employee Handbook

EDUCATION
BA Degree in Music or a related field; Higher education is preferred but not required; Vocal Music is preferred but not required
EXPERIENCE
Two years of experience teaching voice or choir; or any satisfactory combination of education, experience, and training which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties listed.
LICENCES, CERTIFICATES, AND CLEARANCES
Cleared Background/Fingerprint check
Valid CPR and First Aid certifications
Cleared TB assessment
Completion of Ministry Safe Training
KEY COMPETENCIES
Knowledge
Well-rounded knowledge of vocal pedagogy and music theory
A level of artistic proficiency in vocal jazz
Familiarity with education techniques specific to harmonization & blend needed for vocal jazz arrangements
