Description: JSerra Catholic High School seeks a qualified theology instructor to teach multiple courses within its Theology department.
The ideal candidate for this position would be an individual who is faithful to the teachings of the magisterium of the Catholic Church in all aspects of his or her life and who possesses skills and experience that would enable him or her to flourish both as a theology teacher and role model for high school students.
Applicants should have the ability to participate in shared decision-making in a team environment, have excellent oral and written communicative skills and be proficient in technology.

the formation of students’ faith, intellect, and character) • Deep appreciation for the Catholic faith and a commitment to the teachings of the Church • Strong initiative and desire to work in a highly collaborative environment • Superior rapport with parents, students, and staff Responsibilities • Planning, preparing, and delivering lessons to all students in class • Assigning work, correcting, and grading work carried out by his/her students • Assessing, recording, and reporting on the development, progress, achievements,, and behaviors of one’s students • Providing oral or written assessments, reports and references relating to individual students • Communicating, consulting, and cooperating with other members of the school’s staff • Cooperating with the department chair, Vice President of Mission and Faith, Vice Principal, Principal, and other teachers in the preparation and development of courses of study, teaching materials, teaching programs, and methods of teaching and assessment • Participating in department retreats, in-service education, professional development, and training courses • Participating in staff, group, or other meetings related to the school • Supervising students outside of the classroom, such as at lunchtime or during detention Knowledge & Skills • Deep knowledge of Catholic teaching and ability to articulate it to adolescents • Excellent interpersonal communication skills – both in writing and as a speaker • Proficiency in the development of curriculum at the secondary level • Ability to communicate truths of the Catholic faith to Catholic and non-Catholic students alike • Proficiency in assessing student progress and maintaining accurate records via the school’s on-line grading program Education & Experience • Bachelor’s degree in Theology or Catechetics (Catholic) • M.
A.
in Theology (Catholic) or Diocesan Catechist certificate preferred • High School teaching experience desired PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
Position requires the ability to perform occasional light lifting and carrying; standing and walking; and sitting for prolonged periods of time.
Occasional hand use and finger dexterity needed to use computer keyboard and operate standard office equipment; occasional pushing, pulling, grasping, and reaching may also be required.
Good hearing is required when communicating on the telephone or in person.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment described herein is representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential function of this job.
Primarily office environment with controlled temperature conditions and exposure to environmental factors and hazardous physical substances are minimal and pose little to no risk of injury.
Occasional driving to meetings and/or events may be required.

Under this employment relationship, Employee is free to end his/her employment with the School for any reason at any time, with or without notice.
Likewise, the School may end Employee’s employment at any time, with or without cause or notice, pursuant to this “at-will” provision.
No manager, supervisor, or employee of the School shall have any authority to enter into an employment agreement, express or implied, with Employee providing for employment other than at-will.
With the exception of this employment “at-will” provision and the Arbitration Agreement, any of the terms and conditions of employment with the School may be modified at the sole discretion of the School with or without cause or notice at any time.
