JOB Prospective Student Advisor, Department of Counseling (Student Services Professional II - Non-Exempt) Classificaiton: Student Services Professional II - Non-Exempt Department: Counseling Sub-Division: College of Health and Human Development Salary Range: Classification Range $2,305 - $3,278 per month(Hiring range depending on qualifications, not anticipated to exceed $2,305 - $2,548 per month) Appointment Type: Temporary Time Base: Part-Time Work Schedule: Monday – Friday; Schedule will vary according to department needs.
This is a 20 hours per week temporary position to end on or before June 30, 2024, with a possibility of renewal on an annual basis if program needs exist.

We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as the Prospective Student Advisor, Department of Counselling (Student Services Professional II - Non-Exempt).
The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.
The Prospective Student Advisor, Department of Counseling will guide students through the application process for the Master of Science in Counseling program.
This includes supporting students as they navigate the application system, sharing details about the program and about how it differs from other programs in the region, information about the different mental health professions, and about program requirements (e.
g.
, units per semester, fieldwork requirements).
To help students make program choices, the Prospective Student Advisor also informs them about the requirements for state licensure as Licensed Professional Clinical Counselors (LPCC) and as Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists (LMFT).
Performs various clerical tasks.
Works with the Admissions and IT Offices in preparing files for the evaluation process, and coordinating the interview process, admissions waitlist and communicating with applicants.
Works with admitted students to secure their position as new graduate students.
The Prospective Student Advisor will work with students in their first semester to establish study plans and input those plans into the database.
Other duties include evaluating files and participating in interviews.
Other duties as assigned.
Essential Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent from an accredited four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public administration, business administration or a job-related field and two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or a related field.
A master’s degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of professional experience.
Additional specialized and relevant experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
General knowledge of the methods and problems of organizational management, research, and interview techniques.
Ability to interpret and apply program rules and regulations, obtain factual and interpretative information through interviews, and advise students individually and in groups on complex student-related matters.
Ability to reason logically and use initiative in planning work assignments and in implementing long-range program improvements.
Ability to plan, develop, coordinate, supervise, and organize programs and activities.
Ability to interact with a diverse student population, faculty, staff, and the public.
Ability to analyze complex situations accurately and adopt effective courses of action.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a variety of individuals.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as the ability to acquire knowledge of campus procedures, activities, and of the overall organization.
A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment.
CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information.
Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.
Preferred Qualifications: Graduate degree in clinical mental health counseling or marriage and family therapy.
Experience working as a clinician providing psychotherapy.
Ability to learn databases and use basic computing skills such as MS Office, Canvas, Zoom, and minor web creation.
Strong organizational, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work in a high-pressure environment.
Familiarity with the Department of Counseling coursework, student study plans, and workload expectations.
Knowledge of the differences among all the mental health fields (Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, and educational, counseling, and clinical psychology).
Previous experience working within a university structure.
