The Coast Community College District is a multi-college district that includes Coastline Community College, Golden West College, and Orange Coast College.
The three colleges offer programs in transfer, general education, occupational/technical education, community services and student support services.

Under the direction of the assigned manager, the UMOJA counselor will be responsible for teaching counseling courses, leading workshops, orientations, and seminars, and will assist in developing and implementing necessary retention programs to meet the program participant needs in support of the advancement of the vision, mission, and values of Coastline College.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES Provide comprehensive educational, career, transfer, and personal counseling to current and prospective and prospective students.
Counsel students regarding transfer, career development, goal clarification, employment preparation and readiness with the knowledge of trends in career counseling.
Participate in curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation; participate in and develop programs to measure student performance.
Manage electronic student educational plans, course placements, access to student information systems and access the internet for academic and career planning.
Teach student development courses including, but not limited to, college orientation, academic success, career, transfer and educational planning.
Fulfill the professional responsibilities of a part-time faculty member including, but not limited to the following: teach all scheduled classes unless excused under provisions of Board Policy; follow the department course outlines; keep accurate records of student enrollment, attendance, and progress; submit student grades according to established deadlines; post and maintain scheduled office hours; participate in departmental meetings and college and/or district-wide activities and committees as assigned Provide leadership in areas of student intervention strategies, specifically for the Umoja community and special programs.
Present student workshops and orientations to current and prospective students Assist in developing and implementing necessary retention programs to meet the program participant needs in support of the advancement of UMOJA and the vision, mission, and values of Coastline College.
Participate, as appropriate, in the college’s outreach program with local high schools and the community as it relates to collaborating and strengthening the pipeline between the high school, community college, four-year institutions, and industry.
Develop effective working relationships with faculty members across instructional disciplines and perform liaison activities as appropriate.
Work cooperatively with staff and students.
Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of disabilities and diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic background of students.
Maintain current knowledge in the subject matter areas.
Maintain appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics.
Ability to contribute to campus and district-wide professional responsibilities and activities.
Ability to complement existing staff, student, and community demographics in terms of professional and personal skills.

Qualifications and Physical Demands MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 1.
Must meet one of the following qualifications under (a) through (d): a.
Valid California Community College instructor credential, appropriate to the subject, per Education Code 87355 (issued prior to July 1, 1990); b.
Master’s in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy or marriage, family and child counseling, .
c.
Bachelor's degree in one the the above listed areas and a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT).
d.
Or, possess a combination of education and experience that is at least the equivalent to the above.
