As a BGCLB (includes Saddleback) professional, you interact with club members every day.
The safety of each member is an important part of your job.
Parents trust that the Club is a safe place for the kids to attend.
A safe, positive environment is one of the five Key elements for Positive Youth Development.
Club activities should be under continuous supervision by an appropriate ratio of adult staff- or volunteer-to-members.
The ratio should comply with applicable state laws and BGCA recommendations, whichever are more stringent: Drop in: 1 employee to 25 youth.
Instructional: 1 employee to 20 youth.
Group Clubs: 1 employee to 15 youth.
Teams: 1 employee to 15 youth.
Daily Programming/Day Camp: 1 employee to 10 youth.
Day trips: 1 employee to 8 youth.
Kinder: 1 employee to 5 youth.
Preschool: 1 employee to 3 youth.
Overnight: 1 employee to 6 youth, with a minimum of 2 adults present Swimming: 1 lifeguard to 25 swimmers + 1 employee spotter to 10 swimmers Safety Monthly Drills: Club staff will conduct and practice monthly safety drills with our members, volunteers, and parents/guardians if on site.
This ensures a sense of calm for our members knowing that our staff are well-rounded and trained.
Drills: Medical Emergency, Fire, Earthquake, Landslide, Flood, Evacuations.
A notice will be posted outside when drills are in session.
We ask that any parents/guardians that is picking up wait until the drill is over so our staff can properly release the members.
Site Director completes monthly UNSCHEDULED safety drill form and submit to Risk Management Director and Area Director by the last day of the month.
Coordinate facility “lock down” system for the park and responsibility for all staff, members and volunteers during crisis situations with Risk Management Director/Area Director.
Perform and coordinate training in concert with the Risk Management Director and Area Director for emergency response systems for all Club staff and critical volunteers.
Learning and implementing the key concepts for club safety for supervisors and activity leaders.
These concepts are called the Five Safety Principles that are constantly practiced daily to greatly reduce the chances of members being harmed.
Foster and enforce personal boundaries.
Take your club’s code of conduct seriously and be mindful of you and others “crossing the line.
” Think of members as your responsibility, not your family or peers.

Increase recruitment of new members and retention of existing members INCREASE AVERAGE DAILY ATTENDANCE OF CLUB MEMBERS BY INVITING THEM BACK EVERY DAY.
Ensures that members are encouraged to participate in a variety of program activities and receive instruction and constructive feedback to develop skills in all program areas(s).
Promote 40 Developmental Assets, Trauma Informed, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Practices, Developmental Relationships among staff, parents, members, and community partners.
Oversees provision of guidance services to members to assist them in fulfilling and making appropriate choices in educational, personal, physical, social, emotional, and vocational goals.
Club Pride: Housekeeping and cleanup of space or areas are maintained by the youth and staff prior to closing area.
Support and participate in club wide OJP mentoring Program (as assigned).
Demonstrates leadership to assure conduct, safety, and development of members and staff.
IE; Cultivate kindness, confidence, and character.
Establishes and maintains club-wide program goals and settings that ensure the health and safety of members.
Ensures that all staff understands effectively communicate standards of program (Program Observation tool); that they ensure program areas are safe, secure, and well lit; and that the club equipment is maintained in good working condition.
Ensure front check in procedures of volunteers and guests are followed which includes signing in, use of name badge, BGCLB (includes Saddleback) gear when requested and evaluation of volunteer experience.
Follow up and support Volunteer Specialist special events designed to promote the Club and programs or activities.
Recruit with the direction of the Area Director, select, manage, and guide assigned staff and volunteers, ensuring productive and effective performance.
Human Resources Recruitment Team will assist with onboarding of new hires with an extensive 10-day orientation and training plan to be completed prior to working directly with members; some flexibility if new employee has BGCA experience.

Resource/Facility Management – 15% Manage financial resources assisting to oversee payroll and program budgets.
Control expenditures against budget and ensures that club wide programs and activities are operated within established budgetary guidelines.
Area Director will assign duties as necessary for growth in learning to manage financial resources.
Supports and ensures proper record keeping (payroll schedule) and reporting including activities and events conducted breakdowns of daily participation figures (Average Daily Attendance), notable achievements and any problems or issues.
Conduct daily walk-through inspection of grounds, facilities and park sanctioned uses areas including inspections of park restrooms, playground, uneven surfaces (hard or soft), pick up and drop off zones, walking path from school, van storage area, program supplies and vehicle inspections.
Transportation Expectations Will/May need to drive the van daily to pick up or park at Family Resource Center daily.
This task can be shared if staff member qualifies; check with Area Director for approval.
Complete pre/posttest daily/every time van is driven.
Retain documentation and place in designated area in van.
Follow up with Area Director and Transportation Coordinator (if assigned) to complete repairs or concerns about vehicle safety.
Maintain clean and organize space to avoid injuries and to protect supplies.
Partnership Development – 5% Develop and maintain public relations to increase the visibility of programs, activities and services I.

Support all BGCLB departments by promoting new program, activities, events, and achievements.
Recognize investors fand supporters by requesting art and special cards or items made by the members to thank our community at the event/visit/or special occasion as approved by Area Director.
Ensure that all BGCA graphic standards are being met to protect our BRAND.
Additional Responsibilities – 5% Purchase or approve purchase of supplies and equipment within limits of authority.
Summer/Fall bulk purchasing for program needs as assigned.
BGCA Purchase Point Food Bank Closeouts/Sale periods Work with staff on special events to carry out programs in all departments.
Exercise authority in problems relating to members; utilize guidance, recognition and discipline plan with the support of the Area Director or Human Resource Department.

QUALIFICATIONS GUIDELINES Education, Experience and Training: A combination of education, experience and training is needed to provide the required knowledge and abilities necessary to succeed in this position.
Education: BA or BS degree or equivalent from an accredited college with course work in the field of community services, public relations, communication, public administration, or similar field.
Experience: At least five years’ experience involving corporate engagement & project management skills including public relations, media relations, community services and activities, community recreation programs, or similar business experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Exercise good judgment and flexibility in response to dealing with the public, corporate businesses, the organizations collaborative partners and other stakeholders.
Apply and explain BGCLB policies and procedures.
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, including staff from the BGCLB.
Advocacy and networking skills.
