The APE Teacher will support both PVP campuses in Tustin and Ontario through providing adaptive physical education instruction for our students as well as serve as an advisor, consultant, and assessor to meet the individual needs of our students.
APE classes should provide functional and critical instruction for our student population and align to California State standards.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide personalized APE instruction to meet the unique needs of our students through individual and small group physical education classes.
Utilize evidence-based strategies and techniques during instruction to improve the development of perceptual-motor skills and psychomotor abilities.
Assess and provide written evaluation of students’ perceptual-motor skills and psychomotor abilities.
Work effectively with Classroom Teachers, Behavior Team, and COTA Department to establish physical education programs and deliver instruction on a daily basis.
Conduct in-service training for staff.
Participate in the IEP process.
Maintain accurate student data, records, and logs.
Respond to emergency situations involving students and student behavior on a routine basis.
Perform other duties as assigned.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Valid California Credential authorizing the teaching of physical education and an Adapted Physical
Education Specialist Credential.
Previous experience working with students with mental and physical developmental disabilities.
Shift requirements are on-site 8am-4pm, Monday-Friday, and serves students at both Tustin and Ontario campuses.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, organizational skills, and attention-to-detail.
