UDW & Child Care Overview: United Domestic Workers of America, UDW/AFSCME Local 3930, is a statewide labor union that represents more than 170,000 home care and childcare providers in 45 counties throughout California.
Founded in 1979, UDW is a diverse, progressive labor organization that seeks dynamic, committed individuals who will support our members and those for whom they care locally, statewide and at the national level.
In 2019, UDW/AFSCME Local 3930 along with another National Union won the rights for Collective Bargaining for 40,000 child care providers in California.
This joint venture is known as Child Care Providers United (CCPU).
As a team member of UDW/Child Care you will have the unique opportunity to empower Childcare providers to have a voice to make the changes needed in the childcare system, host our own meetings, prepare providers to become activists in their industry on a larger scale, and guide providers to become leaders in their childcare union.
UDW is California’s largest union of home care and childcare providers and consistently supported and led our community’s social justice initiatives including racial justice, income inequality and affordable health care for all.
We are committed to respect and dignity for Californians with disabilities, families, children, the sick, and the elderly.
We fight for better working conditions collectively and fair pay and better benefits for home care and childcare providers and full funding for the programs and benefits these providers need.
